The recent declaration by President Benigno Simeon Aquino III, who wanted to be simply called PNoy, to amend the Constitution revealed his true colors and intent – a dictator wannabe masquerading as savior of the country. He simply wanted to perpetuate himself in power by tinkering with the Constitution and corollary, to be able to perpetrate the illegal Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) and the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP), which are sources of kickbacks not only of the Senators and Congressmen but also of the privileged members of executive department including the President. The not-so-sudden change of heart by PNoy is also aimed at maintaining his family’s grip over Hacienda Luisita, which has been ordered distributed to the farmworkers no less by the Supreme Court.

The setbacks by the executive department at the Supreme Court from the “Truth Commission”, and the recent PDAF and DAP decisions, which were the implied reasons of PNoy to amend the Constitution are mere camouflage to conceal his and his cohorts real motive of staying in power beyond 2016, to amass more power and wealth.

Clipping the powers of the Supreme Court, disregarding the principle of checks and balance, giving more power to the executive, and disregarding the Supreme Court decisions, which form part of the law of the land, are clear manifestation of arrogance and dictatorial tendencies and acts of PNoy.

This is worrisome. It must be opposed. PNoy is already inebriated with power due to the now-bursting popular support he once enjoyed that he sees himself superior and supreme than the Constitution and the Supreme Court. For that, he must be thrown out of office at once.

Marcos stayed in office for nearly twenty years and history tells us that during his time, there were rampant human rights violations and graft and corruption by Marcos and his cronies and allies. The same is true with the nine-year rule of Gloria. We cannot afford another of their kind in BS Aquino III. He is no different. And his true dictatorial powers and unbridled arrogance are showing their ugly heads.

Unfortunately for the farmworkers of Hacienda Luisita, if PNoy succeeds with his evil plans, their miserable condition will also continue. At the hands of PNoy’s appointees at the DAR, the Supreme Court’s decision to distribute Hacienda Luisita to the farmworkers and to implement agrarian reform program therein has turned from bad to worst. From the “Tambiolo” system of land distribution resulting to displacement of farmworkers, to the destruction of their huts and farm lots, and the filing of trumped-up criminal cases, the lives of the farmworkers in Hacienda Luisita became more miserable. And that will not change but will surely become even worse should PNoy be allowed to remain as President.
