Instead of intervening to stop the violence, elements of the Tarlac PNP and a SWAT team armed with high-powered rifles arbitrarily arrested farmers to make way for TADECO’s fencing of agricultural land.
Confined at the Tarlac Provincial Hospital are Jerry Mesa for head injuries and Fernan Corpuz who suffered heart failure after the violent arrest. Corpuz who is now in critical condition is still under hospital arrest and is heavily-guarded by police.
Two other arrested farmers, Marcelino Lugay and Pia Hernandez are detained in two separate police facilities in Tarlac City without any inquest proceedings.
TADECO thugs proceeded to dismantle a hut serving as headquarters of farmworkers’ alliance AMBALA in Bgy. Cutcut, while police and army elements stood by to secure the demolition. Remnants of the hut were burned. Police also confiscated the organizations’ belongings such as a television and DVD set, loudspeaker, handtractor set with engine, deep well set and a waterpump donated by Adamson University students, kitchen ware and utensils, assorted farm tools, implements and seeds.
By nightfall, police and soldiers belonging to the 3rd Mechanized Battalion also conducted warrantless raids in Barangay Cutcut, hunting down AMBALA members and confiscating cellular phones from residents.
