March for Justice

Ecumenical Service w/ IFI Bishop Lito Cruz
and “Jericho March”
8am, Bgy. Balete, Hacienda Luisita, Tarlac City

To continue to seek justice for victims of the Hacienda Luisita massacre and subsequent political killings related to agrarian unrest in this sugar estate, Luisita Watch will launch a year-long commemoration campaign that will commence on March 13.

March 13 is the 9th death anniversary of Father William Tadena of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI), a staunch supporter of Luisita sugar workers, ambushed by unidentified gunmen. Luisita Watch will hold “March for Justice” for Fr. Tadena and other Luisita advocates who fell victim to extra-judicial killings in the month of March – Tarlac City Councilor Abel Ladera (died March 3, 2005), United Luisita Workers Union (ULWU) leader Tirso Cruz (March 17, 2006) and Anakpawis leader Victor “Tatang Ben” Concepcion (March 17, 2005).

The March 13 campaign launching will begin with an ecumenical service with IFI Bishop Lito Cruz as main celebrant, 8:00 am in Barangay Balete, Hacienda Luisita . It will be followed by a solemn Jericho March around the concrete walls which prevent farmers from tilling the land they have cultivated for years.

A potluck solidarity lunch will be held at the farmers’ kubol in Balete. Supporters of Hacienda Luisita farmers are likewise invited to join their trooping to the Municipal Trial Court in Tarlac City at around 1:30 pm to attend the scheduled hearing of Luisita advocates who were unjustly detained and charged by Tarlac police during a fact-finding mission last year.

The Lusita Watch contingent will leave for Hacienda Luisita from Quezon City on March 13 at 4:30 am. If you wish to join, pls contact Gi of LUISITA WATCH at Tel.No. (02) 7992009 or 09166114181.
